Kong is King

King KongI had this poster on my wall growing up. It’s an image that is burned in my head as one of those images of growing up.

Today I hit the movies to check out Peter Jackson’s King Kong. I wasn’t sure what to expect outside of 3 hours of good old fashion ‘popcorn movie’ fun. Boy, was I not ready for what I got.

I’m making the call now that this is THE perfect date movie. Hands down the best date movie I’ve ever seen. Why do I say that? Because while it’s chock full of action and killer special effects it is a love story at heart full of beautiful scenery and touching moments. I know that I heard sobs at the end and I’m not surprised.

I never thought I’d say this but this movie is amazing. Simply jaw dropping in every simple way.

Peter Jackson took a fairly simple story that could have been just another butchered piece of meat going through the Hollywood machine, but instead he made a movie for the ages. Kids will enjoy it for all the action, but the parents are going to appreciate the subtleness of some of the scenes.

Watch Kong’s eyes. The animators did such an amazing job to capture the littlest of things. And they walked the line of making it too human like, but never crossed the line in my opinion. They got really close a couple of times, but I think they toned it in.

I had been watching the production diaries from day 1 and thus it was mind boggling to see some of these sets and scenes that they had let us peek in on finally be on the big screen.

I don’t know what else to say. I loved this movie.
