I Always Did Like to Color

Earlier this summer I heard the words “I’m starting a new company called crayon” for the first time and my world changed.

It’s a pretty cool story about that night and one I have already covered over on Managing the Gray. You can read it here or listen to it here.

crayon

I firmly believe that crayon is a new kind of marketing company. We are not going to do things the same way everyone else does. One of the reasons is because I personally don’t know how other shops do things. I’m completely self taught. My degree is not in marketing and I have not worked for any ad agencies in my life. That alone helps us do things differently.

We have an amazing team in this company. Yes, you’ve heard about guys like Shel Holtz, Neville Hobson and of course our spiritual leader Joseph Jaffe, but there are others on the team that I’m just as excited to work with. Some even more so because they are young, hungry and eager to get out there and make a difference. That is fun to be around.

Since I’m posting this later then the first wave of comments and postings that I know are out there I will say a couple of things.

Yes, crayon is going to operate in Second Life. Being a global company we are using technologies such as Second Life to allow us to work together as a team in ways we couldn’t without it. We will have offices, social areas and an amphitheatre for events. When you swing by I’m sure you’ll see some of the employees walking around or socializing with others. We are not just setting up an island and going “ooh, look what we did!” We will be using the space to run our business. To show clients what Second Life can be to them and to educate others.

The crayon GangThere will be an event on Thursday. Most have already picked up on that. We’re going to fit everyone in we can and then if you can’t we’ll be taping and sharing with everyone afterwards as well.

If you want to chat more about this let me know. We are all available for interviews via Skype, e-mail, phone, second life or any other technology I’m forgetting. Heck, we can do it the old fashion way in person if you like! *grin*

We believe in social media and will be using all facets of it to get the word out there, answer the questions and stay involved. It’s a big world out there that we are working in and through the power of new marketing it gets a bit smaller every day.

Already I can sense a buzz building. It’s an interesting feeling and one I have not felt in a long time. It feels good. It feels challenging and exciting all wrapped up in one.

crayon is going to be different. We are different already. That in a nutshell is why I joined the company and why I believe in it.

Update: I have left crayon.
