Emily’s Studio

Emily has found a passion for drawing lately. I had the same passion when I was little and stopped doing it. I hope she doesn’t do that.
So we are feeding that passion. Today she saw an easel in a catalog and said she wanted it. She had forgotten that she already had one.
She clipped paper to one side and the bag of crayons on the other and went to town drawing tons of pictures.
I took a bunch of photos and the whole time she ignored me which made me so happy! Never once looked at me which of course made for better pictures.
I can’t wait to go X-Mas shopping for her! *grin*

You know, there’s no reason you can’t pick it back up along with her. It doesn’t matter if you’re any good - she’d probably love the company, and who knows - you might find something inside yourself that wants to come out and play.

Oh I doodle like a maniac. And last X-Mas Laura got me a great easel to do more painting on. It never really leaves you.

The only issue I would have with Chris’s idea would be that she might start to compare your work to hers. As long as you keep that in mind I think it would validate her desire to make art. Another thing you could try is moving her easel to your office so that you can hang out while she draws. I know a lot of younger children stop drawing when they draw in seclusion. It would send her a message that her art is important to the family dynamic.
Rock on.
