Transformers Theme Song Done RIGHT

posted on June 12, 2007

Have you heard the utter crap version of the theme song that is going out with the Transformers movie? If not then don’t bother.

The guys in Black Lab heard it and thought it sucked as well. But, in true new media fashion they didn’t just sit around and complain about it. They went into the studio and recorded their own version. On top of that they took all the footage out there from the trailers and cut together a music video for it as well.

I have been DYING to share this with everyone as I got a super secret sneak peek at it and have been rocking out to the song for about a week now. It will be on their next album and I can’t wait.

More and more artists are realizing that they can have fun and be creative in this space as well. The people behind the movie Transformers REALLY should wake up and check out this song. It’s above and beyond what they already have! Michael Bay, I’m talking to you! *grin*

If you really like what you see (and how could you not?) you can download a hi-res version of the video as well.

Hmm, not very impressed really. Vocals are kind of annoying, sounds like a whiny smoker? Heh. I like the snippet I’ve heard of the Mute Math version, which I guess is the one you don’t like.

    Now that’s good. :)
I was hoping Kenny Loggins would do a cover or something, but that’ll work too. ;)

  • http://www.thevesuviusgroup.com Frans

Hmmm, i like the instrumentals it is much more rocking. But i agree a bit gRoger. The singer sounds sad and down.
He sounds a bit like: “Oh.. hey… it is the transformers. ..meh..”

But it should more like “WOW! Yeah! Tranformers! ROCK!(like Tenacious D)”

The movie theme isn’t very good either. I like the rap bits though. But there is very little song in it and what they sing is also a bit down.

WoW. Black Lab has completely outdone themselves with this! Not only that, but they’ve completely outdone anything Paramount has. I know when I go to watch it, I’ll have this song running through my head!

  • http://www.CookingRocks.net D.Lo

Wow, that’s pretty sick. Now I want to hear the crappy original version.

    Gave me goose bumps…

I’m a little too old to have been into transformers as a kid, so I don’t get the whole thing frankly. Black Lab does the best they can with it but those lyrics, yikes, that’s bad. I’m also very unhappy with what they have done to one of my favorite cartoons, Underdog. Bleck.

thats just a rehash (a bad one at that) of the theme by Lion from the cartoon movie…ugh.

  • http://imbeta.net Imbeta

this songs sucks man… it must be great if you’re emo, but truth be told: the original rules… just play the real one again and compare them both.

there HAS to be someone out there who can pull it off, seriously.

  • Rogue

Thanks on the save Black Lab, the crap by MuteMath hurts the ears. And to all the old fans, true it’s not the one by Lion, but it’s not the same movie either.

  • optimus35

Still rpefer the version by Lion

  • http://cineaste.blogsome.com Darphpinko

This sounds a lot like the same version that Lion came up with for the Transformers: The Movie back in ’86. That was THE version of the theme song. This one by Black Labs is kind of half baked.

Why does dude sing like he’s trying to take a dump? Music sounds ok, just replace the vocals.

  • XxScythexX

Holy shit. this has officailly renewed my anticipation for this movie. I agree totally that the MuteMath verision is worse than shit. An eleven-year-old kid with a mic and a synth bored can do a better job than MuteMath.
I will probably buy their new album just for this song.
Once again this is really badass.

  • XxScythexX

And comapring this to Lion’s version is not fair. We’re here to bash mutemath’s sack of crap and Micheal bay’s continuous crusade to destroy the Transformers entirely.

  • Keldorian

I like this one a lot better then the one they picked for the movie not sure what the heck they were thinking with that piece of trash.

  • blusher

Now, thats more like it… its much more betterthan the selected theme song…. what were they thinking when they picked the theme song….i wonder…

  • J

hey try this link and see what you think of the clip of the transformers theme its awesome but I don’t know who sings it does anyone know?! if so enlighten me!

  • Obviously

So now there’s three new versions of the theme floating out there. Sadly the one I like the least is the official one. I’m thankful it didn’t end up in the movie or even the credits for that matter. The Black Lab version is probably the best even if it is just a cover of Lion’s theme. That’s not a bad thing because the theme done by Lion will always be THE Transformer theme.

  • fayel

ok that fucking kicked ass!!!! i think the vocals are better in this one for one reason……. because its not a freakin hair band cover!!! hair bands suck almost as bad as rap(I FREAKIN HATE RAP!!!!) i saw the movie and i was pissed that i didnt hear it! but other than that the movie was one of the best movies i have ever seen and seeing that i was born in 84 i grew up watching transformers and ghostbusters this was one of the best movies to come out about something from my childhood, the child in me is going crazy over the new song and movie!!!

  • Christy

Can you tell me why the theme song is not played at all in the movie? We saw the movie today—and we were very shocked and disappointed to not hear ANY version of the theme song—I had hopes of everyone in the theater (born in the 70s and 80s) bursting into song together with “more than meets the eye…”
This was a huge letdown—-Why did Dreamworks leave it out? I didn’t think the Ann Bryant issue would stop them from including the theme song that makes transformers so nostalgic….what’s up with this?

  • Christy

Do LOVE this new version of the song by the way!!!–This is great…
way better than Mute Math—but didn’t hear anything at the movies!

  • Pierce

That was a kick as movie!!!!!! thing is poor jazz dies ;(.

  • sasha

That is dreadful man!!! What kind of vocals are those?? Painful!!!

  • scott

they totally ripped this off of the version from the 80s cartoon movie by lion. you can find it in itunes. i like the 80s version better….

  • da man

movie was ok, the song kinda sucks, sure it seems good at first cause you get nostalgic as you hear the 80s cartoon rythmn as it starts. But still this song gets annoying quick, i got bored halfway through

movie could’ve IS ok, but could’ve been done better…megatron should’ve stayed a gun too many planes, should’ve kept most of the transforming sounds…also when the humans find a way to destroy the deceptacons they should’ve brought in ‘devastor’…..prime looks dumb without mask….movie 8/10……THIS song is 4/10

  • Rylee

Fuckin awesome.Black Lab did a awesome job

  • Dean

    What the fuck is shit?

The Lion Original is 200% better.

    Blacklab is worse than Mutemath.

  • Chris

When I heard what “mutemath” had done to the TF theme, I couldn’t talk for about 2 or 3 days I so pissed off. I grew up on transformers, and here it was, some crap fag-rock wannabe assholes had shit all over my 20+ years worth of memory. Way to go Michael Bay.

The Black Lab version was slightly better… but only because they ripped off the original riffs and 80s beat. The vocals are horrible. Why is it so hard for someone to step to the plate and actually play a decent version?

  • Vampiro

I went looking for a new version of the theme song and what a load of crap i found. This version is slightly bearable… by God there are worse out there. Either way… good thing they didnt ruin the movie with any of these pathetic versions. Lion’s version was good, a remake of that would have been good if you gave it to a Metal band. Giant, dangerous, metal robots deserve giant metal sounds.

Hopefully they can get a real band by the time they do a sequel.

  • 46-CHARLES-46

THAT IS FUCKING GREAT!!!!! MUTE MATH SUCKS BALLS

  • http://www.myspace.com/cornandroses Cornflake

Sorry, but I hated this BlackLab version. Truthfully, I prefer Mute Math (I went and bought the Transformers soundtrack last week and it’s bangin’!). Yeah, Mute Math doesn’t comepare to Lion’s version years ago, but Mute Math will get it stuck in your head…

I hate BlackLab’s because he sounds so….whiny…and like he’s PUSHING the song from his ass….gross vocals. Hated it.

  • http://www.myspace.com/cornandroses Cornflake

I just read Vampiro’s comment and I agree with him. Give the song to a true Metal Band. Linkin Park may be able to pull it off by if they can get Chester to do the vocals just right…

Oh man…I’m gonna have a orgasm just thinkin’ about Linkin Park recreating the Transformers Theme. I love them and think they are awesome. Maybe we should write in and tell them to try it. I think they’re up to the challenge.

  • Tpcl

So, there was that version that people thought was going to be attached to the movie. Y’know the one I’m talking about? The one that sounded like a Linkin Park wannabe band? It sounded like someone wrote and recorded what they thought Linkin Park would sound like doing the theme. Crap.

Black Lab: even worse. That vocalist sounded like he was trying to squeeze out a stubborn turd.

Yeah, it’s nice to imagine what the theme might have sounded like if Linkin Park did it. But I for one absolutely love Mute Math’s version. I think that band’s creative genius is fantastic. Honestly, folks. Give some of the more obscure artists a listen. And watch some of their videos. You really don’t need a $50 million budget to make a cool music video. Just a little brainstorming.

  • Mike

wow… um no offence but this really sucks it sounds like the little kid show songs by pot heads its really bad transformers.. robots in disguise idk but id reallly take mutemath over this and they rejected it for a reasons their proffesionals

  • Chris

I LOVE Mutemath, I’ve seen them live and they are amazing. If you haven’t seen their live stuff, check it out on YouTube. That said, I personally hate the Transformers song. I didn’t see the movie (on purpose) because I’m a film snob, but the song made me want to see it even less.

  • Roxana Quispe

i love the movie transformers and the song to much is awseome who ever created transformers is a good movie!
    I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE TRSNSFORMERS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • joseph

dude that song rocked way better than mutemaths crud of a song

  • http://www.theshoreways.com J.Gardner

Massive FAIL. mutemath actually has talent… and you can hear what they are saying, it doesn’t sound like they have a wad of chew in their mouth…

  • Chris

The vocals really KILL this version. He just sounds bad, I understand people today have no clue about good music, it just gets worse and worse each generation, but still, Black Lab obviously listened to the original because the music is really good, it’s just the vocals….

Especially when you listen to the original version. Lion really sang “TRANSFORMERS!!!!!!” in a glorious Valhalla style, like the gods were coming to earth, this guy is like “mehhhhh, i need my cold medicine, mommy, and my allergies are starting to flare up, meeehhhh wheeeese meeeeeeeeh transformers meeeeeh” Still… better than Mute Math’s version.

It’s the difference between the crap character design of the new movie compared to the great design of the original.
