CC – I like the Morning Surf phrase. Makes me feel Californian although I’m in South Dakota. This morning I jumped out of bed thinking I was missing a presentation I was involved with only to find once at work that I misread my schedule. So here I sit in the meeting room, calm as can be, and I’m doing my Morning Surf and finding it so peaceful. Especially when you’re not surrounded by familiar items that beg you to work on them. I may have to Surf like this more often!

There’s always the NPR 10-minute morning news summary, or you could just subscribe to a few NPR podcasts for longer background news. They also have an hourly 5-minute summary every hour on the hour.

If you sit in front of a computer all day, that’s probably your best bet for good (and commercial/hype/fear-free) news in my opinion.

Your ideal morning routine sounds very similar to mine. There’s something grounding about spending the first hour or so reconnecting and catching up with whatever the world was up do during your hours of sleep. Sets me up right and armed for whatever the day decides to throw at me.
