Going Back to Bentley

My morning started off with a fun little moment as Emily came into the office to give me a hug and looked down at my moleskine and asked, “what is that?”

She was looking at a sketch of wire frame I did last night around a project I’m working on. Real fun explaining it as she doesn’t take the simple answers and wanted to know why some boxes were different shapes and what my scribbles meant. It was a lot of fun and a good way to kick off the day. (and yes she is feeling much better now)

Today, I’m doing something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and that is speak to a marketing class at Bentley College. Sure, I do plenty of public speaking and love it, but this is different. It is different because in high school my guidance counselor told me I’d never get into Bentley and that I had to look at easier schools. Thankfully I didn’t listen to her and I’m a proud alumni of the school.

Today I’m speaking to both an undergraduate and a graduate marketing class. I’m keeping it rather informal so that the students can direct the conversation into the areas they are looking for answers in. This will be the first time I’ve ever spoken at Bentley so I’m excited about it. Plus, thanks to my new media nomad life style it is no biggie to work in the library or student center in between the classes and carry on just like I was at home in the office.

And with TED kicking off this week (and my envy of good friend Mitch Joel being there) I’m hoping that someone there shows how they have figured out a way to squeeze more then 24 hours out of a day or invented a concentrated sleep chamber that takes the concept of a power nap to a whole new level. Any chance? I could use both of them lately.

A routine I picked up from a migraine doctor for power naps - slam a cup of coffee just before you nap, remind yourself out loud that you are napping for 15 minutes, and you’ll be amazed at the results.

Just wanted to say you did a great job speaking at Bentley. No one has EVER caught my attention about blogs before, but I’ve actually been looking through some and trying to scope out the blogging world ever since that class(it’s clearly a large world to explore). Hoping to stumble upon sort of group that really sparks my interest. I guess part of the reason I was so intrigued was that I have no hobbies I’m very passionate about. I’m pretty much just focused on working and school (and the nightlife of school, but that’s not much of a hobby), so maybe this could give me some direction. As for the non-sleeping advice–try living in a college dorm. Thanks again for your presentation/chat session with the class!
