Improved Water?

I’ve been on a kick lately of trying to be smarter about what I eat and drink. This means that during the day I chug down a lot of water. Hard to not do this when I have a water cooler about six feet from my desk. But, after a while this gets kind of boring so I’ve been looking for a change.

Strawberry Snapple Antioxidant WaterI was talking about this with a friend and he mentioned this new antioxidant water from Snapple. I kind of laughed about it because water should just be water in my book, but I figured I’d give it a try. He was doing some work with Snapple, or knew someone there and a week later I had a couple of bottles of the stuff to try.

Instead of a juice box or a glass of kool-aid this is actually flavored water with extra vitamins and other good for you stuff in it. Comes in funky flavors like Orange Starfruit, Strawberry Acai and my favorite Dragonfruit. They all tasted really good and didn’t have any of that aftertaste that I find in a lot of the sports drinks out there right now and thus don’t drink them.

I forgot that I promised to post my thoughts about this product until last night when Laura and I got a giggle out seeing their bubble wrap commercial on TV. Bit over the top, but it was funny and it did the job of making me think about the product again so I guess it can’t be that bad.

I’m not sure if I’ll be buying more of this or not. I really liked it and the kids did as well. If they came in smaller bottles I’d consider buying them for the kid’s lunches because they are always looking for variety and I’m always looking for something healthy for them. I wonder if Snapple has thought of this?

If you want to find out more about this product they actually have a slick Snapple Antioxidant Water MySpace page set up with all the details.  If you try it let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks for your thoughts, CC! (The bubble wrap commercial is neato.)

In Australia, we have Vitamin Water (same thing as your Snapple, I gather). I love regular old water, and I’m an extremely fussy person when it comes to food/drink, so I’ve never been game enough to try it.

Also, the Vitamin Water label makes it look like some kind of medical liquid or drug. I know that’s a weird thing to turn be off a drink (’don’t judge a book by its cover’), but I’d be more inclined to Snapple for the label alone.

I’ll be sure to post my thoughts when I get around to trying it. :)

To be honest? I’m not into the whole vitamin water movement. Especially when I find that I suddenly have to be concerned about the amount of calories in my “water”.

It is not very likely that I would get this water of which you speak.

Or you could use fruit to flavor your water. Any fruit that has an aromatic oil will work great - citrus rinds contain tons of those oils (which is why you can smell someone peeling an orange in another part of the house) and flavor up water great.

One thing that’s not obvious about Snapple’s “water” is the 125 calories per bottle. Calling it water when it’s a soft drink is somewhat misleading.

Chris, you are totally right. It was one of the first things I looked at because I wondered how much of the added stuff added to the calories.

There is some other fitness water out there right now with a whole campaign around the idea of calories. I forget who, but when I saw it, I thought it was dead on.

[…] A few folks have been mentioning Snapple’s new soft drink, Snapple Antioxidant Water. […]

Forget flavored imitations and boring old H20. You need H206.
After reading your post (and a reply post from Mr. Penn on his blog), I did a search for “Fitness Water” and this was one of the results I got.

It made me laugh, but at least it’s just water, sort of.

This stuff is so far from water… all the crap they put into this beverage and the honestly try to promote the benefits? damn…people must be really dumb.

the commercial was horrible by the way. The bubble wrap thing is just plain stupid.

If you want a flavored water that really is water, try “hint”…no calories, no sugar , no bullsh*t. and its tastes good too.

    F U SNAPPLE!

Okay, well I have to say that the MySpace Page has a pretty crappy layout, but hey, aren’t they all crappy looking on MySpace?

The Commercial however, I liked it. It was different!

As for flavored waters… I’ve tried a few different brands, I just don’t like the aftertaste. In my book, CLEAN PURE WATER that is ICE COLD is the best!

Thanks for the post CC! The proliferation of flavored water will be interesting to watch over the next 5 to 10 years for a couple of reasons: 1) The movement against ‘bottled water’ by environmentalists and green consumers 2)How bottled water and it’s baby (flavored water) will react 3) Who will be the pepsi and coke of flavored water? and 4) Will the major players be new or established brands?

I love Vitamin Water (and I’m sure Snapple’s version is yummy too) but its chock full of sugar. I have a hard time calling it water!

Everyone wants to be 50 Cent! Vitamin Water can only be beat if people can beat the price and still sustain the taste. Also it has to be this “New Thing”. The way VM was.. At first people didn’t know it was a Coke product so if you brand it Snapple… I think your missing out on the opportunity to be as cool as jones soda. ;-)

I used to drink vitamin water a few years ago, but then realized it was just fructose (corn syrup) and some other crap that is bad for me.

Lately I have been throwing a slice of lemon or lime in the water. It tastes great and costs like 3 cents per glass.

Another treat is a slice of ginger in some hot water.

I have also seen and tasted cucumber… so if you like cucumbers give it a shot. Makes for an interesting taste.

I hate how those companies push it as water, it is loaded with chemicals or crap, costs a fortune and comes in a plastic bottle. F them all.
