A Photography Milestone For Me
I love taking photos. It is a passion that has been in my blood ever since I watched my grandfather develop a photo in his dark room growing up. It is something that I love to do and love that I’m getting better at it.
So, opening up the October 2nd issue of Rolling Stone and seeing a photograph I took on those pages gave me amazing pause and happiness. I’ve been reading this magazine for as long as I can remember and I don’t think I ever imagined I’d see this happen, but I’m sure not going to complain!
Today is a very good day.
Update: I keep getting asked this question and even though I answered it in the comments let me put it here. AE is a client of mine and they asked me for permission to use the photo and I gave it to them.

As someone who has had the extreme pleasure of standing shoulder to shoulder with you, taking photos… and then seing the results and being in complete awe of how much better your shots were than mine, I’m not surprised. You’ve got a great eye, CC. Someday I hope to see your esteemed work in the pages of other great magazines like “Juggs” or “Honcho”.

Second: I’m curious to know how it was they found your photo… Was it something you’d submitted or did they pull it offline somewhere, like Flickr? These success stories are always so interesting to hear!

American Eagle Outfitters is one of my clients at The Advance Guard and they had seen all the pictures I took at the event and asked if they could use this one for one of their ads. I of course said they could.

did you submit it to them or was it one from your flickr stream and they picked it up?
I won 3rd place in a Shakespeare photo contest this month. I think I know how you feel, but yours is on a far greater scale than mine…
continuing to develop our skills, for the sake of our own enjoyment at photography is important; getting recognized is icing on the cake.

We were really pumped to hear this was such a cool deal for you, too. I’m the red dress next to your face up there. When I was in high school, I had cut out pages of Rolling Stone literally covering my bedroom walls, so its INSANE to see myself in there. Thank you so much for taking such a great photo!
