PodCamp Portrait

Every so often I get a picture that makes me stop, pause and smile because something about it really hits a nerve with me. This one of Alicia Kenworthy from PodCamp Montreal certainly did.

PodCamp Portrait

Granted, it doesn’t hurt to have a beautiful subject to start, but I’m a fan of the simple realities of people. The smile, the hair over the eye. It all makes it for me.

People seem to dig my portraits and I love taking them. My Faces Set contains some of my favorite images I’ve ever taken.

Maybe one of these days I’ll take a magazine cover or an album cover. That would certainly be damn cool.

part of being a great portrait photographer is making the subject in front of you comfortable - to be able to show their best side (their real side).

you obviously have that talent. you’re fortunate to have the gift.

Wow, I’m flattered!! Thank you so much. It was wonderful meeting you last weekend in Montréal, and I hope our paths will cross again very soon. I’ve checked out your entire photo stream - you have a lot of talent, the pictures are beautiful.

Beautiful picture! Draws you right in … the eyes, the smile … way to capture it and thank you for sharing! Alicia .. you should indeed be flattered.

I’ve doing a lot of thinking about the power of media (music, pictures, film, video) to change the world. It seems that many others have as well and this is leading to some major events like Pangea day last may (film. There is something new being announced on October 3rd in association with James Nachtwey. James is an incredible photographer and recently won the TED prize.

I blogged about this and a few other thoughts just last night http://connecttheworld.wordpress.com/ . I embedded some videos of Peter Gabriel and James Nachtwey’s TED presentations. Tell me what you think … can media change the world?

I can remember, when you started to talk about photography and when you bought your Canon XT Rebel (?). It is amazing to see the results. Last week the Rolling Stone picture, now this one. It reminds me about taking more pictures myself (I am not very good, but it is encouraging to see this amazing progress!).

Your set is great - I love to photograph people but I find it hard to find willing subjects! I have one friend who has great self-esteem who lets me shoot her and also a nephew with no inhibitions, but otherwise, I find it hard to get subjects. Maybe I should have brought my camera to Web 2.0 Expo, if people at PodCamp were so friendly and willing!
