Get Out and Vote

posted on November 4, 2008

Today is an important day in American History. I firmly believe that.

Vote HereOne of two very good men will be voted for as the next President of the United States. While I’ve known my vote was going to Obama for a long time, others are still figuring out who to vote for. Just this weekend I spent some time at a friends and she said she wasn’t sure yet. I didn’t try to convince her one way or the other but I did tell her who I was voting for.

Anyone that doesn’t know yet who they are voting for really needs to get educated and fast. Don’t go by the commercials. Go see what each candidate has to say for themselves. Really listen to what they are saying and what they are saying they want to do and then figure out what YOU are most comfortable with.

Tonight I’m going to be part of a team live blogging the election results over on Yes, But No, But Yes starting at 9pm EST. My first time doing something like this and I’m very excited about it.

I’ve got one meeting this morning that I’ve got to get out of the way and then I can head to the polls. If you don’t know where your voting find out.

There is no excuse for not voting today if you are a US Citizen over 18. The lines are going to be long, but I’ve been waiting 8 years to cast this vote.

Amen. GO VOTE! America works best only when we take part in it. I live in the Houston area, and I am pleased that we have gotten such large turn-outs in early voting (38% in Harris county, and 50% in Ft. Bend!).

    GO VOTE!
    GO VOTE!
    GO VOTE (for Obama :)

While I believe anyone who wants to vote should do so, I am not in the camp of people who believes that everyone should vote. I believe that not voting is a perfectly legitimate decision. It is better to cast no vote than to cast an uninformed one or one that lacks conviction. At the same time, if you don’t vote, you have no standing to complain about who does get elected.

On a separate note, I am curious as to why the blogging doesn’t start until 9 pm. Unless we are in for the mother of all surprises, this race will likely — and unfortunately, from my perspective — be over and done by 9 pm.

Well said Chip. No one should just go in and hit buttons or check off boxes without being informed. I agree with you there. I guess I just want everyone to GET informed and make a decision.

Not sure why not starting till 9. I’m just blogging for it, but I bet the organizer can jump in and answer that.

Hey Chip, Steve from YBNBY here – honestly, we thought about making it earlier, because I know things may be called by then, but a lot of people were going to election parties and or voting. So I set it after most of the polls closed. I felt like it was our duty not do ANYTHING that would give anyone an excuse not to get out and do their duty. I think our liveblog will be more of a party than any kind of serious “breaking news” journalism.

Yes, go vote! Rock it now. This is everyone’s day to make their choice.

I could not agree with you more CC. Today is the day we take back America, and what we do today will effect our children and our children’s children, for generations to come.

Waiting in line for 3 and a half hours didn’t even bother me this morning. The way I saw it:

3 Hour Wait > 4 Years of Tears and Depression

Cold, Windy Weather > 4 years of a Winter-like void of change

Achy Feet from Standing > Aches and Pain in which a healthcare system wouldn’t be helpful

Get out there and vote folks…plus the sticker you get is plenty satisfying :)

Voted this morning, average turnout, no long lines.

I do believe EVERYONE should vote.

Ignorance is never an excuse (well, Okay, maybe in few cases!)
BECOME INFORMED! READ! LISTEN! LOOK AROUND! ASK QUESTIONS!

NEVER complain about what you allow!
