Memories in a Picture

posted on November 17, 2008

We did some cleaning and reorganization this weekend. Seems to be a constant thing in most people’s lives and lately I seem to be finding things that I want to frame and hang on walls. While hanging a print of this picture taken by Andrew Darlow at the first Podcast Expo I noticed the date on the print. November 12, 2005. Wow!

PodShow Music Gang

Realizing that last week would have been the three year anniversary of this picture really gave me a cool pause to think back on how much has happened in those three years.

The picture represents the first batch of music guys that got involved with PodShow. That afternoon we had recorded a podcast pool side and really had a great time. It was the first time we had all met each other face-to-face. It is funny to look at this and then think about what each of them is doing these days.

If you don’t know who they are, in this picture from left to right starting in the back is Mike Branum, C.C. Chapman, Mark Hunter, Marcus Couch, Michael Butler, Julien Smith and Canis Lupis.

I was explaining this morning to Emily that one of the reasons I take so many pictures is to capture memories that we might lose otherwise. I haven’t thought about this day in a long time, but the minute I saw it I got a rush of memories from that day. Who was there. What we were drinking. What was on our minds at the time. Instantly brought me back to that sunny day by the pool with my friends.

Life moves REALLY fast. Make sure you capture as many memories as possible. Makes for a great Sunday afternoon reflective.

Great picture. It really does capture the mood of that day. Time does FLY! Keep clicking away.

That is a nice find. I just started putting up videos of The Carol and Steve Show from 2005 on YouTube.

This one from Jan 2005, when Carol meets Amanda Congdon in NYC, is fun… It’s from when we had the first Vloggercon.

I’m really happy that I have these memories on video and can now share them with a larger audience on YouTube.

In Jan 2005, there was no YouTube.

    Hey CC:

I remember that day (and event) well, and I’m glad I was able to be there to take the photo. You were all having such a great time, and it was the first time that many of you had met in person after working together “virtually” on the music show. It was also the first time I met many of the people who I later would see for the next few Expos, at Podcamps, concerts, etc.

Photography is magical, and I agree that photos can certainly bring back a flood of memories in a special way.

    All the best,

    Andrew

Great picture. Has it really been that long?

I certainly miss the positive, hopeful vibes from back then.

I have that photo at my desk at Mevio. What a great time we had! I remember us all doing impersonations of each other and Madge Weinstein getting thrown into the pool. Good Times.

Wow thanks for writing about this C.C. I actually have the 16 x 20 version you sent me from Andrew. It hangs right above one of my workstations. Those were great times, and that certainly was a fantastic day when we all imagined in our hearts and minds what could become. For me, it didn’t turn out quite that way, but just being involved with you guys in Podcasting in the early days ended up becoming the inspiration for a whole new world of video and new media, and I thank all of you guys for that. :)

I dig this photo. I was busy chasing a tranny around the pool with a video camera when it was taken… but I did catch a pitch perfect impersonation of Marcus by Butler.

Nice to see this get some attention again. I also have this pic hanging in my office. This moment changed it all for a lot of us. I miss the ones who are not around. Butler did a decent impression, but I’m not sure about the “pitch perfect” aspect, Mr. Rockwell. Butler doesn’t have the deep balled tone, but the inflection is pretty close. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of your followers C.C.! Warm wishes from SoCal!

Hi CC and the rest of the guys who were in this photo on that amazing day.

CC, thanks for posting this up, you’re a great guy for your sentimentality! What an amazing time that was and how our lives have changed since then! I’m now working full-time in new/social media; I actually make podcasts and talk about new media for a living! That was my dream standing by that pool in 2005 and now it’s a reality.

God bless all of you guys! Thanks for the memories!
