13 Years

Thirteen years ago today friends and family gathered outside the Half Penny Inn surrounded by the fall colors of New England and Laura and I got married.

My Honey and I

I still remember that day and the party that followed and can’t help but smile. We wrote our own ceremony. We were surrounded by the people who mattered the most in our lives. As night fell fireworks filled the sky. In the morning my Dad asked everyone if they heard Jingle Bells and everyone but us laughed.

Laura and I have a unique relationship and we know it. It is one that is built on trust, humor and intimacy. Neither of us would have it any other way.

We don’t make a big deal out of today because we’ve always celebrated when we first started dating and that was 20 years ago this past spring. That day REALLY makes us laugh and smile.

But, there is something fun about a baker’s dozen worth of married years. They’ve all been happy for sure and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather spend my life with.

Now and always.

    Happy anniversary!

I think that perhaps my husband and I are similar to you and Laura’s, we spend most of our time being best friends and having a great time with one another. I can’t imagine having something different.

We also wrote our own ceremony, something I am so happy we did because 1, it was short and 2, it was so much more personal.

Our 3-year wedding anniversary is next month, but we will make a bigger deal of the 10-year anniversary of the first time we spoke to each other, which is coming up in March. It seems silly to discount years of being together for something more official.

This is a lovely entry, thanks for sharing.

I feel the same way about Matt- we started dating early in College and got married quite some time after that,so the years married don’t quite tell the whole story that we’ve been together since 1984. (25 years!- OMG I must be getting old, or I am going to have to revise the story and say we met in grade school…)
You are such a great couple, and such a role model for others at how love can be- Congratulations!

Congratulations and happy anniversary CC and Laura. Ewan and I have a very similar marriage and partnership, and we can’t imagine ever not being together, even when we’re on opposite sides of the world. We’ll have been married for nine years in spring, but together for fifteen (well, you’re older than us!) and we also focus more on the time we’ve been together rather than how long it’s been since the public ceremony. We’re best friends first and foremost, and that’s the key.
