My CNN Debut

posted on January 21, 2009

I’ve been on the news before and in the papers. I don’t care what anyone says it is always a cool feeling when it happens.

So when I got the call from CNN asking if I could do a live interview tonight, how could I say no. The funny part is that I almost didn’t answer it because it was a number I didn’t know and the swearing in was beginning to happen.

FYI - If the video player doesn’t work (it seems to be borking in some browsers) you can watch the interview here.

What was interesting about this was that the audio portion was done via the phone and the video via Skype. You’ll notice I’ve got my headphones on and those were plugged into my iPhone so that I didn’t have to hold the phone up to my face the whole time.

I’m psyched with how it came out. It was weird because the video online was about a solid minute and a half behind when we actually recorded it so it was trippy to watch the comments coming in on the page. Thanks to everyone who sat through the endless marching bands to watch this. Seeing all the comments and words of encouragement was very cool to see and I appreciated them more then you know.

If this is your first time at the site after seeing this on CNN, welcome and let me know what is on your mind.

Hey man grats on being all iReporter’d up and getting interviewed on CNN… I like that CNN (old media) is actually starting to get into our world and with Obama seeming to be much more connected than any other pres before I’m sure that’s just starting. I mean whitehouse.gov has a RSS feed! wooo hoo!

    Hi CC,
We watched this from Boston Beer Works last night with a bar full of social media people. They also had CNN up on the big TV’s. We were watching this on Jeff Cutler’s laptop at the bar over free WiFi.

    Excellent job.

Most everyone was confused as to the difference between CNN.com LIVE and CNN. Yesterday’s CNN.com/Facebook integration was between CNN.com LIVE and Facebook, but not CNN the cable news broadcast.

When we were in the bar watching you, it was made clearer since this interview was not live on CNN, but streamed on CNN.com LIVE.

Sometimes CNN will broadcast segments from CNN.com LIVE on CNN the cable channel. I saw that on election night from CNN in NYC.

This is a very exciting development and I’d love to integrate Facebook with one of my live broadcasts some time.

CC, this is exactly why I give you a hug when I see you. Your energy is more addicting than crack laced with Draino and Crystal Meth. It’s comforting to know that you are leading the charge with all of this, because I couldn’t ask for a more fun person to do it.

PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE if and when you see CC you HAVE to give him a hug and absorb some of that love and energy I’m talking about. Do it. I mean it. Do it. Next Tweet-Up, Meet-up, Throw-Up, Throw-down we all hug CC.

Well done bro. I wish I had your ability to focus opposed to spending my time chasing down racists on Twitter, which I wasted my time n yesterday (although I admit it made me laugh). ;-)

    NICE! Love it CC.

I think my favourite part is that your video that they lead with looks every bit as though it was produced by CNN.

Really cool mate, and good stuff from CNN on keeping an ear to the conversation and giving you such good air time.

CC – I couldn’t watch last night so I’m glad you had this link today. Congrats to you! Fabulous video from you and then great interview. Bravo to CNN for not being afraid of the new mediums, but embracing them. A new day has dawned…the president even has a Director of Social Media. How cool is that?!

    That’s great stuff!

I’d be a babbling idiot if I had been in your shoes. But then again, I am a babbling idiot just about all the time.

    Well done.

Nice job CC. After coming back to you at the end they went to their next field reporter and had an audio connection problem & that contrast between your report and that attempt says it all about social media. Anyone else catch that?

good show. i always think i look goofy and sound stupid when i have made the news. i’d be more self-conscious if i made national news

Hi CC, I don’t know a thing about you but I wanted to say “WOW”, great delivery during yesterdays live coverage on CNN.com. I was actually feeling a bit sleepy after hours of watching the long parade and suddenly there you are, full of more excitement and energy then I have seen in anyone in a long long time. That was so inspiring to see!! LOVED IT!

Hey CC, that was awesome. You did a great job! I’ve learned a lot about social media by following your blog, tweets, etc. and it was great to see you front and center. Nice Job!

Hey CC, that was totaly awesome! New media is finaly getting in contact with ‘old media’ and the connection realy works! Seeing a global media company like CNN connect to the new media opportunities is a big step forward. And seeing you right in the middle of it, is a big compliment to your work! Keep it up!
