A Few Truths

posted on October 27, 2010

This morning over coffee and Kid Rock I wanted to share a few truths that I know in my heart are true.

  • Friends are a crucial part of your life.
  • Only connecting with someone on a social network does not equal a friendship.
  • I love social media, but there is more to life.
  • A glass of fine Tequila over ice on a New England autumn night is perfection.
  • Macallan on the rocks is just as nice.
  • Family is the most important thing.
  • The state of politics is rather sad at the moment. We need less finger pointing and more fixing.
  • We all need to put down the phone and computer and get outside more.
  • The Celtics are off to a great start.
  • My beloved Dolphins are not going to make the playoffs.
  • Companies can no longer ignore the online and social channels.
  • I don’t know if content is king, but it certain rules!
  • No one is going to do a Behind the Music about any social media rock star.
  • Minute 16 is up coming for a lot of people.
  • Adding “Author” to my bio is going to be a big checkoff from my life goals.
  • Common sense, politeness and respect will get you far in life.
  • Everyone likes lists

There’s lots of great stuff there C.C.
I would comment more, but think it would be better to save it for some chatter over Macallan soon.

    Or. Better yet…. Lagavulin.

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

Never had that actually. We should fix that!

Congrats on adding “Author” from your goal list… It’s also on mine, but have a bit more to do before I get to that point for a childrens book I’ll live then write & illustrate…

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

I didn’t think it would happen this year when it started so who knows. Keep
chasing your dreams because I tell you, it feels pretty damn awesome when
      you reach them!

“Minute 16 is up coming for a lot of people.” – gold!

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

      *wicked grin*

Of course we both know some of the people who really need to hear that will
find that too subtle and not get it.

I’m printing this right now and taping it on the wall next to my desk. Thanks for this.

One of my goals this winter is to get to know the people I’ve met via social media a little better. Then the next time we see each other it won’t be squeezing in five minutes at a conference, it will be at a scotch tasting.

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

Well said!! Put away the technology and sit down and share a memory. It is
      always better that way.

Try MacAllan (and other good whiskys) with just a splash of water to open it up, rather than rocks. I predict you’ll never go back. (And Lagavulin is great- -an Islay malt, so more smokey/peaty), and I am a big fan of the Highland Park 15 and 18yo whiskys (from Orkney).

ITA on the Dolphins, just not as sad about it as you are.

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

I’ve tried water and I still prefer it over ice.

  • http://doughaslam.com Anonymous

oh– and while on subject of whisky, if you are not listening to http://www.whiskycast.com/ give it a shot (or, rather, a dram)

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

*laugh* I love scotch, but I honestly can’t imagine listening to a whole
podcast about the subject. I’d drink it, than discuss it.

RE: “No one is going to do a Behind the Music about any social media rock star.” I wouldn’t be so sure…

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

I think you over thought this one. It was a total joke around the “rock
      star” approach to social media.

      • http://stevegarfield.com Steve Garfield

I just under thought it, saw, “No one is going to…” and responded. LOL

      • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

        HAHAHAHAHA!

I originally had it as no one would ever do a “where are they now?” but I
think this arena is ripe for that!

  • http://www.connectedworldmedia.com davidjacobs

Great stuff CC. This one only works for parents but look deeply into your baby’s/toddlers eyes; they’re starting back at you and there is that connection going. Now tell me how important social media is.

  • http://www.TheDADvocateProject.com Anonymous

CC I’m sorry but you are wrong about Macallan. It is much better that a glass of fine Tequila. But apparently others already made this statement.

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

How am I wrong? I love scotch just as much as I love tequila.

      • http://www.TheDADvocateProject.com Anonymous

I guess I’m just not quite as big a fan of Tequila. Actually previous bad experiences keep me away from it for the most part.

      • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

But, I’d bet most of the bad experiences involved shots of low grade swill.
        Am I right?

BIG difference between shooters of tequila and sitting down and sipping a
        glass of the good stuff.

  • http://twitter.com/TDefren Todd Defren

I’m torn between Hendricks gin&tonic, Makers Mark 46 (that one’s a client fwiw, but who cares?) on the rocks, or a good sipping tequila as for what makes the best drink for an autumn night in *California.*

I’ll try all 3 at once, and let you know the verdict when I recover.

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

Well then since they are a client perhaps Makers would be willing to get my
opinion? Never even heard of MM46. What is it?

      • http://www.parmet.net/pr David Parmet

I loves me some Makers Mark.

  • http://www.parmet.net/pr David Parmet

Seeing the Shuttle launch next week (#nasatweetup baby!) will be a bigger thrill than anything I’ve done since my kids were born – including every social media confab chatfest I’ve ever attended.

Sorry – couldn’t resist adding to the list.

  • Alexa Scordato

Another to add to this list: C.C. is awesome!

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

You are way to kind. *hugs*

  • http://www.danielwarner.net Dan Warner

It’s too early to count the Dolphins out. If they could just heat up Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams it would go a long way to making their offense more effective. The Henne – Bess and Henne -Marshall connections are tight but defenses aren’t being stretched because they don’t need to stack the box against the run. Would that make them good enough to take out the Jets? Yes. The Pats? Maybe — that team is evolving like crazy.

    • http://www.cc-chapman.com/ C.C. Chapman

There is no way the Dolphins are going to make the playoff this year. The
AFC is way tough and Miami can’t seem to grow a pair of balls and start
calling aggressive plays. I would LOVE to be wrong about this, but in my
      heart I know better.

  • http://wwwjackbenimble.blogspot.com/ The JackB

I am going to help you out with something important. The celtics are done. The only way that Doc will get them back to the play offs is a repeat of last year- lose your way in.

But it doesn’t matter because the Lakers are going to go through the league like a buzzsaw. Provided that they remain healthy no one can stop them.

Macallan is nice, I like The Balvenie as well.

I approve highly of this list. :)
