Learn By Doing

posted on July 28, 2011

You can read all the books. Attend the webinars and watch the videos. You can attend conferences and listen to brilliant people speak or hire consultants to help you reach your goals.

But, the ONLY way you are ever going to truly learn a skill is by putting in the time and actually doing the work. Yes, it’ll be frustrating and you’ll bang your head off a wall and scream out in dismay. It won’t always be fun and you won’t always want to continue.

Trust me though, that talking and watching only gets you so far.

Doing gets you to the goal.

This is dead on C.C.! Also, when you have to teach it to someone else you really learn. Do and teach, so crucial. Thanks for reminding us to spend more time in action.

I don’t think I’ve ever learned a new skill or application by reading the manual. I’ve always learned best by just jumping in and playing around with it.

Thank you for writing this C.C.!  It’s been in the back of my mind forever, but to actually see it written out is something else.

I adore the phrase “…you’ll bang your head off a wall and scream out in dismay.” Totally sums up learning something new.
