Through My Lens – Making Sauce

posted on October 9, 2011

If there was any good that came out of the whole ragu mess, it was a desire to make my own spaghetti sauce.

So last weekend I bought all the ingredients and made a big pot for dinner. Best part is since we have a new freezer I could freeze all the left overs so we’ve got many more dinners of homemade sauce in the future.

Also, since I’m taking part in the Olympus Pen Ready campaign (Disclosure: they give me a free camera and I agree to take photos with it) I thought I’d take all these photos with the Olympus E-PM1 to see how it does. Full review coming of it once I’ve shot more with it.

Cento is a good brand, but try their San Marzano tomatoes next time.  I buy them peeled, whole and crush them with my (well washed) hands prior to adding to the pot. The taste difference is well worth the minor extra cost.

Thanks for the tip. Will look for them next time. I honestly picked this brand because ey were the first I saw. Good to know they are a good option. They tasted great.

Food is so hard to photograph, but it looks nice and tasty.

Now THAT is real pasta sauce, as someone who watched his mother make fresh pasta and sauce from scratch and now makes it for my daughter, I can only say YES.
One little point, try fresh tomatoes next time, you will see the difference in flavor. Takes a little longer to reduce because of all the water but it’s worth it.Thanks for standing up for Dads everywhere.
