"Know your equipment." Most important note. Sometimes you are at a once in a lifetime moment, and want to capture a photo or video. You've got to be ready and understand how your camera works.

Check this crazy photo of me sitting on the glass floor of the CN Tower in Toronto.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevegarfield/8077422713/

It was pretty scary to sit there. A camera will get confused looking at this scene since it's back lit with a lot of light. All the light fills the lens, so the camera thinks it's really bright, and what you would get with a standard setting is a nice video outside the window, but the person inside would be dark.

The fix I used here, iPhone 5 with Pro HDR app. It takes two photos, one to expose for inside, and one to expose for outside, then it mashes them together.

The standard iPhone camera app also has an HDR setting that you can play with to try out.
