Thanks for the link, C.C. Just watched the video. Actually, Obama doesn’t announce that he’s running for president, but that he’s taking out papers to form a “presidential exploratory committee.”
He won’t make an announcement about whether he’s running until February 10.

*laugh* Yes, I realize the formalities Bryan, but how many people form the committee, raise money and then back out? Especially with the kind of support this guy has.
It’s going to be VERY interesting. I know I’ve got my dream ticket in my head. We’ll see if it happens.

I’m not so sure Barack is the guy. First, I can’t imagine this country electing a black man to the presidency right now. I think he has loads of support. I think lots of folks like him. I think the media loves the idea of him running. But I really can’t envision a majority of the voters in the U.S. ready to take that step. This is STILL a racist country. I don’t think we live in a time where that can happen yet.
Second, at this moment, Barack only represents a watered down version of how I feel. Personally, I’m tired of settling for the person that edges only slightly closer to the truth than the opponent.
I think I am personally done “settling” on someone to vote for. I want someone who is willing to tell the truth rather than someone who is willing to say what will be accepted by the most people. At the moment I don’t believe Barack Obama is that guy.

I’ll be honest PW that I wonder the same thing as you, but I’m glad he’s throwing his hat in the ring.
I personally think he’d make a perfect VP. The country MIGHT be ok with that. I’m not sure about who for president though. I do know I’ve got a list of people that I say “no F**KING way to”

OK… I’ll be brave… John Edwards still interests me. During the whole time between the last election and now… I’ve heard HIM adress more issues that I care about than anyone else. Plus.. I think he is highly electable, unlike Barack. Of course I reserve judgement until the last minute, but I DO like the guy.
You mentioned a “dream ticket”… what is it? My DREAM ticket would be Jimmy Carter, but that ain’t gonna happen (I don’t think).

Interesting that again, the mainstream media neglects to point out that the video’s premiere was effectively all new media – Brightcove, YouTube, etc.
I’m afraid that as much as I like the idea of seeing him run, PW is right – at the core there are just too many people out there who will, even in 2007, look at skin color as a trump over message, vision, platform, or integrity.
Chris brings up another interesting point. I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist (I know, too late), but the reason you didn’t see MSM covering this in all its accurate detail is because, naturally, it runs counter to their control of the information. The “establishment” would just as soon prefer a candidate that would properly pander to their self-assumed right to be the torch-bearers of information. Unfortunately, the candidate they have in mind will be the one that causes the biggest setback into the momentum that was November 2006.

I remember vividly watching the clock in late August 2005. Katrina just swept through New Orleans, and the damage was done. Civil services were completely interrupted, and the rule of law was gone.
72 hours.
It took 72 hours for the thin veneer of civil society to collapse into the law of the jungle, 72 hours for the worst of humanity to bubble to the surface and rear its head, warning us that it’s only a few scant days from being the dominant force of our human race again.
Barack Obama may represent the noble ideal – vision, platform, message. To be elected (and, quite frankly, to survive the process), he and his team have the unenviable task of finding a way to hijack the animal before its animalistic urges (which cloud our intellects and spawn things like racism, hate, and jealousy) can do them serious harm.
Can it be done?
