First Best Camera Shots

posted on September 25, 2009

I’ve been in New York for the past few days for Advertising Week. I made a decision not to bring my Canon 50D with me because I didn’t want the extra bulk. I figured anything I really wanted to take a picture of I could with my iPhone.

Then a really cool thing happened. The Best Camera application was launched by Chase Jarvis this week too. This little application has some great built in effects that make for intersting photos and of course I’ve been playing with it all week and here are some of my favorite shots from the past few days.

Candy Flatiron

Cleveland Premiere Line

Morning Hustle

There are still a lot of things that I hope are added to this application to make it even better, but I’m really psyched to see that Chase is taking his game to a whole new level. He’s a hugely successful commercial photographer, but he is expanding his brand beyond just that through his always helpful blog post, the new Best Picture Book and the application as well. He’s building a pretty damn big and solid brand for himself and it is fun to watch.

Been looking at camera apps since I default to my iPhone camera more and more.
Your pictures look great, but the app gets absolutely slammed in the iTune app store reviews for having way too much branding all over the photos from Jarvis, especially when posting to other sites.

Did you find this to be an issue?

Yes, this was a problem I had too. The default sharing text to Facebook was just a plug for the app and you couldn’t overwrite it and immediately there was a blog post from Chase reporting this as a mistake that is being taken care of.

I suggested a bunch of improvements through their form and actually had a human write back to me about them which was a nice touch.

This app is VERY much something that needs to be improved if I’m going to keep using it, but for a first gen app it is pretty cool.

If you are looking for other iPhone camera apps my personal favorites are CameraBag and CameraKit.

Nice effects. And the first shot is one of my two favorite buildings in NYC – the Flatiron Building.

I’ll keep the other a secret, unless anyone has a good guess. :)

I recently purchased this app, and have had fun with it ever since. I am not a photography buff only because I already have 1,000 other hobbies, but wanted something to give my pictures something new and fresh. It does the trick! -Jason
