SXSW Advice: 2010 Edition

posted on February 17, 2010

South By Southwest is less then a month a way and I’ve started seeing a lot of questions about advice for the newbie. Just a few years ago I sat in this same office chair and talked about lost I was and how I’d be interviewing people to gain their advice while in Austin.

So instead of writing up my advice for newbies and veterans I thought I’d film another video. Enjoy.

One thing I forgot to answer that I keep getting asked about is no I’m not currently speaking this year. The panels I was asked to be on didn’t get chosen so as of right now I’m not speaking. If you need of someone for your panel let me know. I’d love to help you out.

What other advice would you add to this?

Very helpful advice. Exactly what I was looking for.

Anyone who does speak, or simply pays for a Gold or Platinum badge, I would recommend making time to see at least one movie from the Film Festival. I stayed the whole week a few years ago and saw a bunch — none bad and several outstanding.

I've learned to use my smartphone instead of my laptop. I used to bring my laptop all the time, video cam, and an SLR. If I were going this year, it would be the phone and the FLIP.

Also, I'd be looking forward to the Pepsi booth again. They'll have free drinks and the pepsi zeitgist will get updated http://pepsicozeitgeist.com.

I'd also make sure I was on foursquare if I were a newbie. That's how you can tell where everyone is and what they're doing.
