The Full Sail Experience

posted on January 17, 2011

Last week while New England was getting covered in snow, I slipped out to spend a few days in Orlando, Florida at Full Sail University.

Before a few of my friends started teaching there, I had never even heard of the school.

Now, after spending two days with the staff and students there I can’t wait to tell everyone about the school.

CC Chapman speaking at Full Sail University

If you want to work behind the scenes in the music, movie or gaming industry then Full Sail is a school that you must check out. To call it “hands on” would be an understatement. It was obvious from visiting classrooms across their degrees that students come here to learn by doing rather than by reading a book about something. I love that.

They also have business degrees and a huge thank you to the Full Sail’s Internet Marketing Department for bringing the Content Rules Book Tour to campus. As of right now they are the only College or University that has made this happen so I will always hold a special place in my heart for them and their support.

We had a packed house and live stream for my presentation and I can’t wait to get a copy of it because it felt pretty good to me. But, the highlight for me was sitting down with eight students who were close to graduation and talking with them about the future and answering their questions. I’ve always loved mentoring others and this filled that need perfectly. I was amazed at how each of them knew exactly what they wanted to do with their lives. I certainly didn’t at that age.

I’m hoping this isn’t the last thing I do with Full Sail. I was so impressed with their program and approach to education that I hope I can do more with them in the future.

Update: My #FullSailCC presentation is now available online to watch.

thank you so much for coming, CC! You reminded me of one of my best friends; funny, has a way of talking to people and with people, down to earth and just awesome. You were inspiring and I cannot wait to buy your book! Come back to Full Sail soon! :)

      Thank you very much.

I will always say that I think growing up in a small town with great family
is what has and always will keep me grounded. Just the way I am.

Thanks for coming and hopefully I’ll get a chance to come back soon. I was
VERY impressed by everything I saw and everyone I talked to.

Thanks for sharing your “Real World” inspiration with us C.C. Your book is definitely going to be a ‘best seller” at Full Sail :-)

I was on the live feed because I am an Internet Bachelor’s Degree Student at Full Sail-Online. After spending 10 years in the emerging tech industry as an R& D business owner, I LOVE that Full Sail Online allows me to earn a degree anywhere I am in the World! The Campus is impressive but their online education is beyond any other and as “real world” as you can get!

Great to hear. I get a kick out of colleges being scared of online learning
because I know that it is a valid way to get an education and those that
don’t embrace it are going to be in trouble in the future. I’m not saying it
is the only way, but it is a smart way.

Glad to hear you are enjoying their program. I have two close friends who
teach in the program and I met most of the team while on site and they’ve
assembled a great group of professors.

This sounds like a great program. As an upcoming graduate myself, any mentoring or advice I can find is completely appreciated. It’s great that Full Sail found a way to incorporate this directly into their program. By the sounds of it, large institutions (like mine) could really learn a thing or two from them.

I wish more colleges were so forward thinking.

Full Sail University isn’t very good about clarifying that they are a nationally accredited university. No other school will accept their credits or recognize their degree. For more information about the school please check out this comprehensive site.

Most schools are not Nationally accredited. (you should be aware of the Regional Accrediting organizations)  Most specialized schools, do not have credits that transfer  to regular University programs. (art schools, drama programs, etc) The school is a University designated by the State of  Florida. Did you have something positive to contribute?

Thanks for this as I have been intrigued with Full Sail but wasn’t sure whether or not their program was worth pursuing yet. Your vote is very helpful. I tried to reach out to them once based upon an email from Brick Marketing and will need to renew my investigation.
