Entering the Teenage Years

posted on January 30, 2012

Even with all the success I’ve had in business and my career, the thing I judge myself on most is how well my children turn out.

This weekend my son became a teenager. These are the years when a lot changes, happens and when I believe you start to become the person you will be for the rest of your life. I also think these are the years when I’ll start to know if I’ve done a good job raising him or not.

Happy birthday Dylan. I hope the road ahead isn’t too bumpy for both of us.

I suspect if we all knew what milestones were important in the grand scheme of things, none of us would actually start/stumble into a career , for of all the milestones noted in our epitaphs, it will be those of the generations we leave behind and indeed even in our time here those milestones “children” are the only things we can truly look back with irrespective of outcomes as the true journey.

Enjoy that feeling you have mate for they are the nearest you will come to true bliss and awareness.

The road will indeed be bumpy. It’s supposed to be. But it’s the most exciting and rewarding ride you will ever take. CC, I don’t know you very well – I’ve only met you once (though I read your tweets and posts all the time) – but still I’m certain your kids will grow to be worthy stewards of the world we leave to them.

Hope Dylan had a great birthday celebration!  As a Mom, I agree with you;  I judge myself most on how well my children will turn out.
