Imagination is an Amazing Thing

posted on April 10, 2012

As a parent it is far to easy to say “you can’t do that” to a child when their imagination gets out of control.

Laura and I have always believed that an active imagination and creative thinking is an important trait for our children to have and have always tried to let them run wild with whatever thoughts they might have.

If you’ve ever questioned why imagination is important, you should watch the story of Caine’s Arcade.

It is kids like this that are going to change the world.

Thank you to Jane Quigley for sharing this with me, to Nirvan Mullick for sharing this story with the world and to Caine’s dad for allowing his son’s imagination to run wild.

Imagination is a beautiful thing and something we need to not only cherish in our kids, but foster. Thanks for sharing CC.

“And that’s how you know it’s a real Fun Pass.”

Imagination is a terrible thing to waste.

Inspiration comes from many mysterious places, even a cardboard box arcade from the driven mind of a 9 year old in the front of an autoparts store from in East L.A.

I was in tears by minute six. What an incredible story. Warm, fuzzy, inspirational, the works. I wish all parents were as encouraging as Caine’s father. What a brilliant little mind and what a patient, good, polite kid. I just shared this everywhere. My mom passed away this year, but she always let me run with my imagination when I was a kid and always bared with my stories and my inventions and I am so thankful for that. And, like Caine, my mom always made me the most creative Halloween costumes out of, you guessed it, cardboard. Thank you so much for sharing this and thanks to the filmmaker for being inspired by Caine and sharing his story — and for creating all the attention. It was probably a good dose of karma (I’m not religious so I can’t say ‘part of the plan’ haha) that he needed a car handle and ended up at that very shop.

I forgot to add how clever the calculator was – at first I thought it was more a make-believe code but, nope, he actually figured out how to use square roots to create a code for each. Wow. The mind of a child.
