Watching people stress over how to use any new social network or tool gives me the giggles. Snapchat of course is the latest one that is confusing so many.
"I just don't know how I'm going to use it?"
"It is too confusing for me to figure out so I don't see the point."
"I can't figure out how to use this for marketing."
All real statements I've read, seen or watched over the past few weeks.
Remember when something new would come on the scene and people would simply play with it? Install it on their phones, click around, babble and just see what they got out of it.
Whenever I get something new to play with that is exactly what I do. I usually end up posting some stupid stuff, making mistakes and sharing it with the world.
I do this because I'm comfortable enough not to worry about "my brand" or "how can I leverage this for clients" because I know in the beginning it is not about any of that.
It is about play and experimentation.
Of course in the back of my head I'm always wondering how I can use everything to help my clients. But, I don't allow that to get in the way of the creative fun.
Before my class Tuesday night at Bentley, I set up a custom geofilter for my class so that I could have my students experiment with it. We all got a good laugh out of it and while I didn't see what they posted, I hope they enjoyed it.
With everything going on in the world, it makes me shake my head what some people choose to worry and stress about.
Take a deep breath and play.
And don't forget that the uninstall button is never far away and I promise life will go on for you.
